[What assistance does the SDLC provide?]

The Southern Disability Law Center (SDLC) is a non-profit corporation founded to protect and advance the legal rights of people with disabilities throughout the South. The SDLC is not a part of any state or local government. The Center opened its main office on the Mississippi Gulf Coast beginning in June 2001.

The SDLC hopes to partner with Protection and Advocacy (P&A) systems, Legal Service Corporation (LSC) programs and disability organizations in the Southern United States on major disability rights issues.

  • Pursue major systemic litigation on behalf of P&A programs;

  • Co-counsel with P&A programs on major systemic litigation;

  • Pursue with LSC programs via PAI arrangements significant Medicaid, special education and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) issues;

  • Provide training for P&A and LSC programs as well as disability organizations.
